We secretly arranged a birthday surprise for Baba, whose lunar calendar birthday fell on yesterday. Since his favorite activity is beer drinking, we researched and found a wonderful beergarten in Alameda, Speissekammer. The whole time Baba thought he was going to Alameda to get acupuncture from a Chinese doctor that Weihung knows. (A side note: Weihung is Ashin's new beau!) Boy was Baba easy to trick! He had absolutely no idea of what's going on, and found himself surrounded by all of us and a huge list of beers and German dishes to choose from! Beer, family, and meat! What else can he dream for! It was a very successful party, where everyone had a relaxing and fun evening. The restaurant had a drawer of toys to entertain the little guests, which was great for us as we were able to have a happy hour and a leisurely dinner. It was finished with a pistachio-cream chocolate cake topped with a firework extravaganza (an elaborate candle that clearly violates the US firecode!) brought by Shing from Tibet!
Since the Chinese don't celebrate the 70s, the year before is the festive occasion, certainly a well-deserved one for Dad.

I should explain the boys' sad and lost looks! The minute before they just witnessed the main b-day balloon flew into the sky. Seeing it fly away and away made Ben cry for a long time. It was real sadness for a two-year-old!
It is really really a big surprise, I like Ashing's haircut.
Ashing and her BF looks great. The fire of candle in the cake seems too big. It is amazing.
