Lately, we are witnessing amazing strides Noah is making on reading and building up confidence. Reading doesn't come as easily and naturally to him as to some of his friends, but he's making steady progress almost every week! It's like charting those developmental milestones such as turning over and pulling up to standing, we are awed by the speed and interest kids take to arrive at yet another milestone!
Noah had been unhappy about going to extended care, complaining everyday about how miserable he is there (though when we pick him up he always looks happy). It's hard not to get the mother's guilt activated, something that's completely not present in the father!! Talking to a neighbor about my concerns, I was given a suggestion to leave little notes in the lunch box. I started writing notes every day, stuff like:
"Dear Noah, I love you with all my heart, everyday! Love, Mama"
"Dear Noah, We'll see you in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes! Love, Ma"
"Dear Noah, I want you to know how much I am proud of you. You are reading so well. Kisses, Mama"
To my amazement, he memorized every note word-for-word in the evening, and tells Paul (when I am not around) how much he enjoys getting my notes. Isn't this the biggest heart-tickling activity you can ever imagine?" The notes shall keep on coming as long as the reader is ready!
