castle, peaches, Chinese fruit pickers

On a hot and buggy summer evening, what's to do after dinner? Paul came up with the idea of making a castle out of cardboard boxes, sending me to make the swords and shields. An instant hit that captivated the boys' imagination for two days!

Last weekend, instead of embarking on a (needed!) cleaning extravaganza, we made a spontaneous trip to pick peaches in Poolesville. It was definitely a much more fun way to spend a Saturday morning than vacuuming!
This next picture is to note the abundance of Chinese-speaking fruit pickers at the orchard. It seemed rather disporportionate to the number of Chinese families in the area. There are even Chinese signs guiding us to various orchards! I guess I fit right in!

After we finished picking peaches, we turned to this zanias field to get some freshly cut flowers. There are no Chinese speakers in that area. (What's the point if you can't eat it!)
