Inspirations and Aspirations

After a wonderful and relaxing vacation in California, where we spent time with family, visited old friends, enjoyed the splendid scenery of Point Reyes, toured Angel Island and the always-interesting city of SF, enjoyed mama's wonderful and creative dishes, we are now back home in Arlington. For me, the most heart-warming aspect of the kids' four weeks with grandparents is their marked improvement in spoken Chinese. It took Ben a good three weeks to feel comfortable and confident speaking spontaneously, and once he started, you can tell he really enjoys saying stuff in Chinese. It's so cute! People say he has an cute "ABC" (American-Born-Chinese) accent, but I don't hear it. I just think it's the cutest form of language ever spoken! For Paul, the different beaches at different times of day at Point Reyes as well as Angel Island were highlights and places he wanted to return to. As for the boys, the Chous' backyard and jacuzzi clearly beats everything else! Great summer memories and inspirations to savor and to enjoy...

Over dinner, Noah started telling us when he grows up, he wants to be a talking dentist, as I guess I had once mentioned that dentists can talk forever and their patients can't really respond as they usually have their mouths wide-open and often in pain! Being as talkative as he is, and wanting to discuss everything and anything under the sky, he thought this would be a perfect profession for him. Towards the end of dinner, I asked Paul if he'd heard anything about Sotomayor's confirmation, and Noah immediately wanted to know who Sonia Sotomayor is, which got us talking about the Supreme Court Justices and what qualities they should possess and why the Senators have to ask so many hard questions to make sure the candidate is good for the important position. We realized that Noah's temperament would not likely to make him a good judge, but Ben, on the other hand, has always been interested in being fair. So how about these aspirations for them? A talking/talkative dentist and a judge or even Supreme Court Justice?
